Guidelines for Delivering Content to Facebook & Instagram

Created by Ilja Syumko, Modified on Sun, 9 Feb at 7:58 AM by Ilja Syumko

What Content is Eligible for Delivery?

Eligible content must be:

1. Authentic Music: Original music owned or controlled by the rightsholder.

2. Distinct and Unique: Recordings that are sufficiently distinct and do not mimic or copy existing works.

3. Properly Licensed: Music created with proper licensing and rights, free from unauthorized use of other works.

What Content is NOT Eligible?

Meta classifies the following as ineligible for delivery:

1. Content That is Not Music

Sound Effects (SFX): Audio with no melodic or harmonic content, such as environmental sounds or mechanical noises.

Spoken Word or Speech: Recordings consisting entirely of voice or dialogue without melody (e.g., audiobooks, speeches).

Podcasts, Radio Shows, and Album Commentary: Recorded interviews, descriptions, or non-musical programming.

2. Unauthorized or Illegitimate Music

Sound-a-Likes: Recordings designed to imitate copyrighted works and mislead listeners about their origin.

Illegitimate Tracks: Music that uses sections of existing tracks (e.g., slowed down, sped up, sampled) without authorization.

Unauthorized DJ & Extended Mixes: Compilations or remixes of multiple tracks without proper licensing.

3. Music Ineligible for Monetization

Production Library Music: Stock music or royalty-free tracks created for use in media (e.g., background music for videos).

Public Domain Works: Recordings of compositions where the copyrights have expired, allowing unrestricted use.

Insufficiently Distinct Recordings: Music indistinguishable from existing legitimate tracks.

Ambient/Meditation/Sleep Music: Soundscapes or sound effects with minimal melody, typically used as background music.

Karaoke Tracks: Backing tracks of popular songs recreated by a different rightsholder, excluding licensed instrumental versions.

How to Ensure Your Content is Eligible

1. Verify Ownership: Ensure you have full rights to distribute your music.

2. Avoid Copying: Do not submit tracks that mimic or borrow from existing copyrighted works without proper authorization.

3. Provide Proper Metadata: Submit accurate and complete metadata to avoid content being flagged.
